Rabat leads Espargaro in final practice

Rabat leads Espargaro in final practice

Tito Rabat remained atop the pile as the final Moto2™ practice session was staged ahead of the Tissot Australian Grand Prix. The Sepang winner led Tuenti HP 40 teammate Pol Espargaro while Marc VDS Racing Team’s Mika Kallio joined them inside the top three.

Somewhat remarkably, Rabat has locked out every single Moto2™ session since the current triple-header of Grands Prix began in Malaysia last weekend. The winner of the Jerez, Indianapolis and Sepang races has now reduced the leading Phillip Island pace to 1’32.771, which was one and a half tenths of a second quicker than fellow title-contending teammate Espargaro, with Finn Kallio a further one and a half tenths in arrears.

Alex de Angelis, particularly enjoying the new Phillip Island track surface, was fourth for NGM Mobile Forward Racing as Kallio’s teammate and championship leader Scott Redding – whose lead over Espargaro is nine points – rounded out the top five. In the meantime, there were falls for NGM Mobile Racing’s Mattia Pasini and Aspar Team Moto2’s Jordi Torres, while Dunlop encouraged all riders to put in a race distance in order to check the consistency of their tyres following issues during the opening sessions on Friday.

With Rabat searching for a second successive pole position, Qualifying for the Moto2™ Tissot Australian Grand Prix commences at 4:05pm local time (GMT +11).
