Salom on top in opening Valencia session

Salom on top in opening Valencia session

The first Moto3 practice at the GP Generali de la Comunitat Valenciana saw Red Bull KTM Ajo’s standings leader Luis Salom lead the way from Maverick Viñales by 0.252s, whilst Jonas Folger lapped third quickest on the timesheet.

Salom’s best time of 1’40.403 was well under the circuit best lap at Valencia as he set down a marker at the beginning of a weekend which could see him clinch the title. Only Team Calvo rider Viñales was within half a second of Salom’s time, whilst Mapfre Aspar Team Moto3 man Folger was 0.553s off the pace.

The third Spaniard with a title shot this weekend Alex Rins (Estrella Galicia 0,0) was fourth fastest, 0.6s off P1, with Jack Miller (Caretta Technology – RTG) also in top five.

Efren Vazquez (Mahindra Racing), Niccolo Antonelli (GO&FUN Gresini Moto3), Zulfahmi Khairuddin (Red Bull KTM Ajo), Miguel Oliveira (Mahindra Racing) and Romano Fenati (San Carlo Team Italia) completed the top ten.

Kiefer Racing's young German rider Florian Alt was an early faller in FP1, with a harmless lowside. He ended up at the bottom of the timesheet as a result, but walked away from the incident.
