Espargaro stays quickest on Saturday morning

Moto2™ World Champion Pol Espargaro continued to set the pace as Moto2™ action resumed with Saturday’s third free practice session in Valencia. This time, the Tuenti HP 40 rider led Aspar Team Moto2 duo Jordi Torres and Nico Terol.

On a cooler and more overcast day at the Ricardo Tormo circuit, Espargaro led the way with his best effort of 1’35.125, a comfortable two tenths up on Torres as Terol – who has a corner named after him at this venue – ensured that two Aspar bikes made the top three on what is the team’s home race weekend. The top six was completed by NGM Mobile Forward Racing’s Alex de Angelis, Espargaro’s teammate Tito Rabat and Interwetten Paddock Moto2 Racing’s Tom Luthi.

Former championship leader Scott Redding, still struggling with injuries, could manage no more than 18th place for Marc VDS Racing Team. Other riders were in trouble of a different sort; Steven Odendaal crashed his Argiñano & Gines Racing machine at Turn 8 before the aforementioned de Angelis fell at the final corner and the returning Randy Krummenacher (Technomag carXpert) hit trouble at Turn 10.

Moto2™ Qualifying begins at 3:05pm local time (GMT +1).
