Late charge from Salom puts him top in FP3

The Saturday morning Moto3 FP3 run at the GP Generali de la Comunitat Valenciana was led by Luis Salom (Red Bull KTM Ajo) despite a brief technical problem, the Spaniard lapping ahead of Maverick Viñales (Team Calvo) and Jack Miller (Caretta Technology – RTG).

Salom’s team worked quickly to fix a gear box problem on his KTM machine and he returned to the track in the final minutes to register a best time of 1’39.879, the fastest lap ever on a Moto3 bike at Valencia.

His title rival Alex Rins (Estrella Galicia 0,0) ended up fourth, 0.343s off the pace, having also struggled with technical issues. Viñales and Miller, meanwhile, were second and third respectively, with similar lap times to Salom.

The top ten also featured Jonas Folger (Mapfre Aspar Team Moto3), Niccolo Antonelli (GO&FUN Gresini Moto3), Alex Marquez  (Estrella Galicia 0,0), Philipp Oettl (Interwetten Paddock Moto3), John McPhee (Caretta Technology - RTG) and Miguel Oliveira (Mahindra Racing).

Kiefer Racing's Toni Finsterbusch and Ambrogio Racing's Luca Amato both had tumbles, but walked away unhurt.
