Dorna receives 2012 National Sports prize

Dorna Sports CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta has collected Spain’s National Award for Arts and Applied Sciences from the hands of Don Felipe de Borbón. Other winners included Olympic sailor Marina Alabau, taekwondo’s Joel Gonzalez, Football Club Barcelona and footballer Radamel Falcao.

The ceremony was staged at Madrid’s Royal Palace of El Pardo on Monday, as the Sporting Council staged the National Sports Awards of 2012. The event was chaired by Her Majesty the Queen Doña Sofía and the Prince and Princess of Asturias, Don Felipe and Doña Letizia.

Carmelo Ezpeleta was awarded the National Award for Arts and Applied Sciences on behalf of Dorna Sports, recognising his professionalism and contribution to sporting activities throughout his life. The CEO of Dorna Sports was handed the prize by Don Felipe de Borbón.

Also being honoured were Seville’s Marina Alabau as the Most Distinguished Spanish Athlete, Catalan Joel Gonzalez (also an Olympic Champion in London last year) for his efforts in the world of taekwondo, Football Club Barcelona with the Stadium Cup as the entity to have made the greatest contribution to promotional tasks and the promotion of sport and footballer Radamel Falcao as the most notable Latin American sportsman of the year.
