Aspar confirms new Aprilia package for 2014
Friday, 30 August 2013

Power Electronics Aspar will continue working with Aprilia as the company introduces a complete overhaul of its bike package for the 2014 MotoGP™ season.

Over recent weeks, the Valencia-based team has been considering whether to switch to a Honda ‘production racer’ machine or continue working with Aprilia, but only if the latter decided to produce an upgraded machine. Speaking with motogp.com at Silverstone on Friday afternoon, Team Manager Gino Borsoi explained the choice to remain with Aprilia.

"We have had some good news from Aprilia, who have decided to more or less rebuild the bike," explained Borsoi, as Aspar continues to dominate this year’s CRT ranks with rider Aleix Espargaro.

"From next season we will get a completely new package: new frame, new aerodynamics, new engine. We are happy and I think we will have a really good bike for next season. (Aprilia) are still thinking about whether to go with the (spec) Dorna ECU software; I think we will know the final decision in a few weeks."

The Italian did not deny that the new engine will include pneumatic values and also acknowledged that Aprilia is working on seamless transmission, but was unable to confirm whether it will be available from the start of next season:

"We don’t know right now, they are starting to think about it. They do have a seamless project and maybe in the future we can get it."

A selection of riders remain possibilities for the Aspar outfit, which currently runs aforementioned Spaniard Espargaro alongside France’s Randy de Puniet.

"Right now we are still talking with a few riders," Borsoi continues. "We have some ideas on the table and I hope during this weekend, or by Misano at the latest, we will know our riders for the future."

As well as current employees Espargaro and de Puniet, other riders linked to Aspar for next year include Sylvain Guintoli, Eugene Laverty and 2006 World Champion Nicky Hayden.
