Barbera feels Avintia Blusens deserved more

Monday, 6 May 2013

Hector Barbera has explained that he is ‘upset’ with the way his race panned out in Jerez, having finished 12th after qualifying on Saturday as the leading CRT rider.

The Avintia Blusens rider placed his machine tenth on the grid, having headed directly to Q2 qualifying thanks to his competitve times throughout free practice. In the race the Spaniard finished as the second CRT runner, three positions and some 16 seconds in arrears of Power Electronics Aspar’s Aleix Espargaro.

“I don’t really understand what happened,” Dos Aguas rider Barbera said following Sunday’s race in Jerez. “Perhaps the track has just changed a lot and it is true that the temperatures have risen, but I found it very difficult to ride and we were generally very slow.

“All I had to do was touch the brakes and and it would lock up, so it is of course very difficult to be quick when things are like that. If you can’t get yourself into the corner in good shape, it makes things very complicated because you’re then slow all the way through the corner, so it changed everything basically.

“I’m upset because I think the team and I have had a great weekend and I hate not been able to top it all off. Nevertheless, we just need to consider that we have finished as the second CRT and we were up in the points once again.”

Ultimately, Barbera would score four points for 12th position, boosting his current 2013 tally to seven. He sits 14th in the Riders’ Championship and ten points behind ninth-placed Espargaro as MotoGP™ heads to Le Mans in two weekends’ time.
