Bautista delayed by slower runners

Alvaro Bautista knows that he could have been higher than seventh on the starting grid for the Red Bull Grand Prix of the Americas, having lost time behind slower traffic on his quickest Q2 Qualifying run of Saturday afternoon.

The GO&FUN Honda Gresini rider will start seventh, but missed out on a second row spot to Ducati Team’s Andrea Dovizioso by less than one tenth of a second.

“After free practice this morning, I didn’t feel so confident on the bike because I wasn’t feeling any good feedback from the front – especially in the fast corners, so I didn’t have too much confidence,” the Spaniard told motogp.com in a video interview.

“This afternoon we tried the Hard compound on the front and it was much better - like another bike. For qualifying, seventh position is not too bad but I think I can still improve on my best lap time; on the last exit I found some riders in my way, so I lost my rhythm a little bit and missed out on an ideal lap.

“Anyway, the race is tomorrow. I just want to be able to have the good feeling I felt today when I’m in the race, to be able to get a good result.”

In the Qatar season-opener of one month ago, Bautista qualified eighth before racing to sixth position in the evening race at the Losail International Circuit.
