Bradl left to lament qualifying performance

Bradl left to lament qualifying performance
Saturday, 20 April 2013

Stefan Bradl had hoped for a front row start in Texas, but instead is left to ponder what might have been after managing no more than fifth place in qualifying.

A month ago, the German had been one of only five prototype riders to complete a three-day test session at Circuit of the Americas. On Friday he finished comfortably inside the top three, but come qualifying struggled to make such an impression.

“Today has been a strange day for us,” began the LCR Honda MotoGP rider. “This morning the track conditions were pretty bad and the grip level was very poor, so we could not use our advantage from the test.

“At the end of this morning’s first session I was very disappointed, but in the afternoon the grip was much better and the sun was shining…we could use the data and the references obtained in the test, but we still have to adjust the race setup - especially when we are on used tyres.”

Bradl starts in the middle of the second row, between Monster Yamaha Tech 3’s Cal Crutchlow and ahead of Ducati Team’s Andrea Dovizioso.
