Carrasco not fazed by outside pressure
Tuesday, 11 June 2013

Ana Carrasco may be the only female rider competing in any class of the MotoGP™ World Championship, but that is not distracting the Team Calvo rider who is now on the lookout for a maiden points finish in Moto3™.

Having debuted at the season-opening Qatar Grand Prix, Carrasco continues to learn from championship-leading and race-winning teammate Maverick Viñales. Furthermore, the 16-year-old from Murcia is certainly not sidetracked by the topic of gender.

“There is a little bit more pressure because everyone is more concerned about you for being the only female - to see if you do better or worse,” Carrasco begins. “But the truth is that it never affected me and now even less so. I don’t know a lot of women who have ridden bikes because when they competed I wasn’t yet born.

“The goal is to be among the top fifteen. I don’t think we can expect more, as I still need to gain a lot of experience. Next year the only thing I have clear is that I want to continue in the same team and hopefully be closer to the front. Depending on how we are going to end this season, we will plan the next one.”

Carrasco now travels to the second of four Grands Prix in homeland Spain this season, as the sport moves on to Barcelona and the sixth of 17 Moto3 races in 2013.
