De Puniet confident Suzuki is making progress

Randy de Puniet is sure Suzuki is heading in the right direction, testing this week at Misano ahead of a return to MotoGP™ in 2015.

Suzuki departed MotoGP™ at the end of 2011, but earlier this year confirmed that it would be making its 2015 comeback. This week, the marque is testing at Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli between Monday and Wednesday.

"It was not so easy at the beginning because it is a completely different bike to what I’ve been using over the last races," says de Puniet, currently racing a CRT-specification ART machine for Power Electronics Aspar. "In the end the sensation came back quickly. We did a good test, I think; it was a long day but we tried different suspension settings, compared a new frame and a new fairing."

Specifically asked by motogp.com whether Suzuki is making genuine strides, the Frenchman replied:

"They have made a good step. Unfortunately, the weather in Motegi a month ago was not so good, but since that test they have brought out a new fairing, the frame and a new engine spec. Everything is going well and it is step-by-step. We have time, but the days here will be important."

Providing a general overview of proceedings was Davide Brivio:

“It is three days of testing because we are a little bit, not behind, but we want to check all of the circuit as much as possible. On Monday it was a good opportunity to test with all of the other teams to see the level, even if it is always difficult because they have had the whole weekend; we have to start with the setup so we are a little bit behind, but that’s okay and it is still very good to compare our performance. We were previously running two difference chassis. Now we will choose one direction, one of those chassis. We also have an evolution of the engine, a different specification.”

Ahead of this weekend’s gathering - which includes Suzuki having the track to itself across Tuesday and Wednesday - the outfit cited that this would be a particularly helpful test, as running at Misano will help to extract data from a new circuit in a bid to understand and define development of the chassis to a greater level.
