Iannone to miss Laguna Seca race

Tuesday, 16 July 2013

Suffering persistent pain in his right shoulder as a result of a dislocation, due to a crash in fourth Free Practice at the Sachsenring on Saturday, Andrea Iannone has withdrawn from this weekend’s Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix.

Following a CT scan, it was revealed that the Energy T.I. Pramac Racing rider had suffered a small fracture to the humerus as well as bruises that are the main cause of the pain being endured by the Italian. Fortunately, any damage to tendons and ligaments has been ruled out, but in a two weeks’ time a new ultrasound will be carried out.

Iannone has therefore been advised to rest and wait for at least two weeks for the bruises to subside naturally. The Vasto-born rider is not scheduled to ride at Laguna Seca, but will instead be back in action for the Indianapolis round on 18 August.

In the meantime, Pramac continues to consider possible replacement riders for this weekend. Michele Pirro will not be available due to testing for Ducati Team at Mugello, whereas San Marino’s Alex de Angelis is covering for the injured Ben Spies.
