Reuters: Ezpeleta looks to expand calendar

Monday, 13 May 2013

Carmelo Ezpeleta has shared his latest plans for the MotoGP™ calendar with news agency Reuters. The Dorna Sports CEO talks of future races in South America as well as plans to expand the championship further into Asia.

The World Championship currently consists of 18 races, which Ezpeleta claims is an ideal number, although he pinpoints 20 as an absolute maximum. Talking with Reuters, he claims Argentina is all but certain to return to the schedule in 2014 and hopes to see Brazil back on the calendar by no later than 2015.

Thailand is also named as a contender for future years, whereas Ezpeleta will review this year’s forthcoming World Superbike races in India to decide whether taking MotoGP™ to the Buddh International Circuit would be a positive move.

As the United States and Spain host three and four Grands Prix, respectively, they are the countries believed most likely to lose a race once new additions are added.
