Jerez Moto2 Day 3 Full report

Pol Espargaró was quickest as Moto2™ ended this week’s third day of Jerez testing. On Wednesday, the Tuenti HP 40 rider led Italtrans Racing Team duo Takaaki Nakagami and Julián Simón as weather conditions improved dramatically.

Following on from the pouring rain of Tuesday, this morning brought sunshine which was to remain for the duration. Already fastest by midday, Espargaró went on to reduce his best effort to 1’42.636, despite expressing some clear dissatisfaction over his tyres. This edged out Nakagami – who topped the afternoon session – by just under half a second.

In the morning, Idemitsu Honda Team Asia’s Yuki Takahashi was first out of the pits in order to check the track conditions; he soon decided that it was safer to wait in his garage as various damp patches dried on-track, with the rest of the field agreeing.

It was strong day for Scott Redding, as the British Marc VDS Racing Team rider finished fourth as well as completing a race simulation run.  He was ahead of Aspar Team Moto2’s Nico Terol, who completed the top five as the leading Suter runner. Tuenti’s Esteve Rabat was sixth from Aspar’s Jordi Torres and the Desguaces La Torre Zelos bike of Xavier Simeon. Completing the leading ten were Dominique Aegerter and Axel Pons for Technomag carXpert and Tuenti HP 40, respectively.

There was much activity up and down the pit lane, with this being the only full dry day of the week after the heavy and intermittent showers of Tuesday. Once again, the majority of the field elected to work on bike setup adjustments.

The fourth and final day of this week’s test comes on Thursday, as running kicks off at 10am local time (CET). Moto2™’s sole session will bring the curtain down earlier than on the past two days, with the final chequered flag flying at 1:20pm.
