Track dries for mid-day running at Jerez

Sunday, 24 March 2013

It was another slow start to proceedings as the Jerez Official MotoGP™ Pre-Season Test continued on Sunday. Thankfully for all concerned, a lack of rainfall after 1pm allowed riders to leave the pits on dry weather tyres.

Much of the first day had been washed out, resulting in significant gaps between the riders on the final timesheet. This morning, Hiroshi Aoyama was keen to leave the pits; even though he and Avintia Blusens would almost certainly destroy a set of Wet tyres in doing so, the intermediary conditions were the same as those in which he finished riding on Saturday - thus allowing for more direct data comparisons.

The rest of the field were spectators for the first three and a half hours, hoping for either a fully wet or full dry situation but with any luck nothing in between.

Ultimately, Slicks were fitted and the entire field seemingly poured out of the pits at once; the sense of urgency was strengthened by the constant threat of rain for both later this afternoon and the last day of pre-season running on Monday.

Some plan to test new components, although most are reviewing and improving bike setups; however this can only be achieved properly if conditions remain constant for a generous amount of time. As things stand, the chances of that happening look slim.

The pit lane remains open until 6pm local time (CET).
