Lack of ‘perfect setup’ deprives Corti

Tuesday, 23 April 2013

Claudio Corti was the sole finisher for NGM Mobile Forward Racing in Sunday’s inaugural Red Bull Grand Prix of the Americas. The Italian has pointed towards bike setup as the area in which he and the team are most struggling at present.

As teammate Colin Edwards failed to finish the race, Corti took the chequered flag in 19th position – ahead of only Australian rookie Bryan Staring and wildcard rider Blake Young.

"It’s been a difficult race and it feels like we are paying the consequences of not having a perfect setup of the bike for this track," the Italian explained. "Like in Qatar, I had problems at the beginning of the race; having a full tank makes it difficult to ride as fast as I would like and, as the tank gradually empties, it becomes harder to turn the bike.

"It’s only the second race and we did very few tests over the winter, but we are heading back to Europe where I can count on knowing the tracks better and that makes me hopeful in terms of getting better results. I have not achieved the goals for this weekend; I was hoping to be faster than the Avintia Blusens’ FTR bikes and Laverty’s PBM bike. We have to go back home and work, as I want to make up for this at Jerez!"

Texas brought Corti’s third MotoGP™ start, after the 2013 season-opener in Qatar and the final encounter of last season when he made his debut for Forward Racing in Valencia.
