Lorenzo and Rossi confident ahead of Saturday

Both Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi were pleased to report improvements at Brno on Friday, not least after their difficult Indianapolis Grand Prix last Sunday.

Lorenzo elected not to change to a softer rear tyre at the end of the afternoon session, in which he was knocked off the top spot by LCR Honda MotoGP’s Stefan Bradl, although the reigning World Champion was still pleased with general progress.

"I started in a very good way in the morning and also at the beginning of second practice," Lorenzo told motogp.com. "Then we started to try some new pieces on the bike that were not as good as we expected. We spent all of the practice trying things, so we weren’t very fast at the end of it.

"The positive thing is that we have things looking clearer for tomorrow, so we will be able to try and improve our lap times more directly.

Lorenzo’s renewed optimism was reflected in the mood of his Yamaha Factory Racing teammate.

"I think this track is equal (for the respective Yamaha and Honda bikes), as Dani (Pedrosa) won with the Honda last year by beating Jorge on the last lap, but for sure the Yamaha is a lot more competitive here at Brno," Rossi began.

"Also, I am more competitive because I like the track more and I am riding better than I did at Indianapolis. Today was positive for me, especially this afternoon because we made some modifications to the bike and I was fast with both the softer and harder tyres. There are five or six riders separated by two tenths – it’s very exciting!"

Repsol Honda Team has won the last two Czech Grands Prix, whereas the latest Brno victories for Rossi and Lorenzo came in 2009 and 2010, respectively.
