Mixed feelings for Petrucci and Pešek

Tuesday, 9 April 2013

Losail was the scene of Lukáš Pešek’s MotoGP™ debut on Sunday, as the Czech newcomer rode to 18th position. Came IodaRacing Project teammate Danilo Petrucci was unable to make such an impression as he crashed out of the way.

Petrucci started 20th, five places behind his teammate who had stunned to make himself the third-highest placed CRT runner on the grid.

“What a shame,” Italy’s Petrucci began. “I made a pretty good start and managed to mix it with the best CRTs. Then I was struggling with Barberá and, when trying to overtake Edwards, I ran straight on. I rejoined the track but the bike switched off, so I pulled off. Really bad luck for the start of the season.”

Pešek was content with his debut but knew more was possible.

“I'm not entirely happy with my race, but I'm not disappointed,” he commented. “For me, this was the first race in MotoGP and it was important to finish it; so I hit my target, but I experienced a lot during the race. Certainly this is not the position that suits me, though, as my real goal is to be able to take some points away.”

Round 2 takes place in Texas in two weekends’ time.
