Espargaró reasserts dominance in the dry in Jerez
Moto2™ is powered byOn a day that provided largely ideal conditions in Jerez it was Tuenti HP 40’s Pol Espargaró who reasserted his dominance in the dry as he set the fastest time in the second day of testing ahead of Italtrans Racing Team’s Takaaki Nakagami and Marc VDS Racing Team’s Scott Redding.
The day had started off with fog stopping riders from going out on track, though by mid day the sun fought its way through for Espargaró to set a time of 1.42’332, nearly three tenths clear of an impressive looking Nakagami. Redding, one of the favourites this season to do battle with Espargaró for the title, was a further two tenths down on Nakagami, as he managed to displace Italtrans’ Julián Simón into fourth.
Simón was the final Kalex in the top four, as Mapfre Aspar Team Moto2’s Nico Terol put in yet another good showing on his 2013 Suter machine, which he is looking ever more comfortable on. The Kalex chassis did however dominate the top ten, as Pons’ Esteve Rabat came in sixth, with Redding’s teammate Mika Kallio marginally behind.
Terol’s teammate Jordi Torres could not quite match his teammate on the day as he ended in eighth, beating Came IodaRacing Project’s Johann Zarco, who was not able to replicate his wet-weather form from yesterday. Technomag carXpert’s Dominique Aegerter, who has been largely anonymous throughout testing so far made an appearance in the top ten, with sole MotoBI rider Mike Di Meglio doing well to finish 11th.
Dynavolt Intact GP’s Sandro Cortese was the quickest rookie with his Kalex as he ended the day in 18th place. Terol, Rabat, Honda Gresini Moto2’s Rattapark Wilairot and Arguiñano & Gines Racing’s Alberto Moncayo all suffered a fall throughout the day.
