Oliveira left to lament poor start

Tuesday, 16 July 2013

Miguel Oliveira blamed a poor getaway as the main reason for finishing fourth from third on the grid in Sunday’s Moto3™ German Grand Prix.

For much of the race, the Mahindra Racing rider was involved in a three-rider duel for fourth, fifth and sixth positions after he and teammate Efren Vazquez found themselves chasing the Estrella Galicia 0,0 machine of Alex Marquez. Ultimately, Oliveira would pass the Spaniard but was still annoyed to miss out on the podium.

"I lost concentration at the start and did not get away well - and I was not comfortable in the early part of the race," the Portuguese rider recalled. "I lost time with some suspension chatter problems; I found a way to fix it by changing my style a little, but by then it was already very complicated.

"I concentrated on saving the tyres and finishing the race. Another fourth shows I am constant, and only one point from fifth overall. The bike is really good. I try to be consistent to always be there."

At the previous race in The Netherlands, Oliveira had grabbed the headlines by sealing Mahindra’s first ever Moto3™ pole position while he became the first ever Portuguese rider to start at the very front of the grid in any of the three classes.
