Pešek: "Strange and amazing qualifying"

Saturday, 6 April 2013

Lukáš Pešek becomes one of two Czech riders of the MotoGP™ grid in 2013. In Qatar on Saturday, the Came IodaRacing Project rider raised eyebrows by, not only out-qualifying more experienced teammate Danilo Petrucci, but by placing his Ioda-Suter machine in 15th position.

Pešek walked away from the session extremely pleased, not least as he was the third fastest of the CRT bikes behind the rapid Power Electronics Aspar pairing.

"I think I was faster than we expected," he admitted. "The strange and amazing thing for me is that I finished among the top three CRTs. I'm really happy to be able to achieve this result. Tomorrow we must see how the race will be for me. I raced here in 125s but with the MotoGP is another thing all together; it’s as if this was another track."

Teammate Petrucci was less happy but was quick to admit an unforced error, having ‘thrown away an opportunity’ on a run with the Soft Bridgestone tyre compound.
