Smith explains crash at Turn 3

Friday, 14 June 2013

Bradley Smith ended up on the sidelines after crashing out of the second practice session in Barcelona on Friday. Having been assisted from the scene by marshals, the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 rider explained the incident once back in the paddock.

Smith is still recovering from the incident at Mugello that left him with an injured finger. He has since been undergoing physiotherapy in Italy.

“Today was another tough day,” explained the Oxford-born rider who is currently residing in Andorra. “I am not feeling so confident with the setting and I am missing some confidence myself.

“I am lucky I didn’t hurt myself in the crash because it was another big fall. I lost the front and, as I tried to save it, the rear tyre gripped and threw me off. The bike hit my left knee - and that’s why I was limping in the gravel - but luckily I am fine.

“Right now I need to work hard and sit down with my crew to find where I am losing most of the time. I don’t really know what is missing but we will find something tonight and approach it at 100% again tomorrow.”

Teammate Cal Crutchlow led the way for Tech 3, ending the day in fourth position and just under two tenths of a second down on pace-setting Valentino Rossi.
