Swiss TV renews MotoGP™ contract for a further three years

Tuesday, 14 May 2013

MotoGP™ rights holder Dorna Sports is pleased to announce it has renewed its agreement with public broadcaster Swiss TV for a further three years.

During the Gran Premio bwin de España last weekend, Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta and SRG/SRF Head of Sport Urs Leutert formalized the agreement, which will see Swiss MotoGP™ fans enjoy their sport until at least 2016 across multilingual channels.

Swiss TV has been broadcasting the premier-class of motorcycle racing since Dorna’s initial involvement in the championship in 1992, with the current agreement ensuring that the MotoGP™, as well as its Moto2™ and Moto3™ support classes, are shown across its channels.

MotoGP™ will be broadcast in three languages, with SRF in German, RTS in French, and RSI in Italian, ensuring the entire Swiss nation is catered for. The French and Italian commentators are present at all European Grand Prix, where in addition to the live commentary they will also be broadcasting interviews with the riders. The German team will continue to travel to every MotoGP™ event throughout the globe.

All of Swiss TV’s channels are now capable of transmitting in full HD, meaning viewers can enjoy the highest quality broadcasting Dorna provides, whilst its web feed is transmitted in simulcast, giving viewers the option which language to choose.

Urs Leutert, Head of Business Unit Sport SRG declared: "By extending our existing, 18-year excellent contractual partnership with Dorna Sports S.L. through to the end of the 2016 season, SRG SSR services can continue to offer the Swiss audience a comprehensive, high-calibre programme of attractive motorcycle races – and closely follow the achievements of Switzerland’s successful motorcycle riders."

Manel Arroyo, Managing Director of Dorna’s Media Area, commented: "We are very pleased to have extended this agreement to 2016 with one of our longest standing partners. This not only shows a commitment to the sport, but also highlights the professionalism and cooperation between the two sides over the years. With talented Swiss riders coming up through the ranks, thanks to Swiss TV, native fans will be able to support them as well as their teams."
