Tuenti HP 40’s Axel Pons has moved into the recovery phase following an operation in Barcelona on Tuesday. The Spanish Moto2™ rider underwent surgery to his right forearm to resolve an injury that stemmed in Jerez during 2009 pre-season testing.

Pons had been injured in an accident with Mattia Pasini, during which his arm became entangled with the rear wheel of the Italian’s bike. A photo slideshow of the crash can be viewed below.

The Tuesday operation, carried out by Dr. Xavier Mir at Barcelona’s Quiron Dexeus University Hospital, consisted of opening up the right forearm in order to decompress the muscles in the zone. Once healed, this should allow the 22-year-old to ride normally once again, as movement in his right arm had been severely limited.

Pons is expected to be able to compete in the upcoming German Grand Prix.
