Jorge Lorenzo will start his home Gran Premi Aperol de Catalunya from third on the grid, having missed out on second to Monster Yamaha Tech 3’s Cal Crutchlow by less than one tenth of a second. During the session, the world champion was forced to switch to his second bike due to a gearbox problem.

As Repsol Honda Team’s Dani Pedrosa scored to pole position, Lorenzo found himself rounding out the front row as the most recent race winner.

“I’m very disappointed because today we had a problem with the clutch at a crucial moment and this lap time was the best I could do,” Lorenzo explained. “I also had not so much confidence on the front to make a perfect lap.

“We hope for race distance we can remain constant and fight for the win. We will need to be strong and concentrate for the whole race; we don't know what will happen from the 20th lap.”

Speaking in the press conference later in the evening, Lorenzo explained that he ‘has some tricks’ to avoid frustration when encountering such technical problems.
