Lorenzo from title rival Marquez in Warm-Up

Sunday, 10 November 2013

Jorge Lorenzo has topped the Warm-Up session ahead of the season-deciding GP Generali de la Comunitat Valenciana. The reigning World Champion, who will start this afternoon’s race from second place, led championship leader and pole-sitter Marc Marquez.

Sunday will mark the first last-race MotoGP™ title decider since Nicky Hayden claimed the world crown in 2006. On this occasion, rookie Marquez – aiming to become the youngest-ever premier class title winner – leads Lorenzo by 13 points.

Lorenzo’s quickest morning lap time came in the form of 1’31.073 for Yamaha Factory Racing, with Repsol Honda Team’s Marquez just under two tenths of a second down. At the end of the session, the pair continued a habit witnessed across the weekend by lining up alongside each other for their practice starts.

Elsewhere, the growing crowd saw Cal Crutchlow slot into third position on his final day with Monster Yamaha Tech3, while Marquez’s teammate Dani Pedrosa completed the top five with LCR Honda MotoGP’s Stefan Bradl. Alvaro Bautista was sixth for GO&FUN Honda Gresini, ahead of Yamaha’s Valentino Rossi.

A top four position would guarantee the title for Marquez in this afternoon’s race, while Lorenzo is aiming to become the tenth rider in history to claim a third premier class world crown. The 2013 MotoGP™ title showdown begins at 2pm local time (GMT +1) – all of the action can be followed live and interactively on motogp.com.
