Slow resumption as rain affects Jerez test

The Moto2™ and Moto3™ riders were left to sit and wait as sporadic heavy downpours lashed the Jerez circuit on Tuesday. Following an unhurried start to the first full day of the week, bikes began to leave the pits 90 minutes later than usual.

As the combined session effectively began an hour and a half later than scheduled, the track was still saturated with standing water. Any chance of a dry line emerging was quickly and literally washed away at ten o’clock, as more rain arrived; this in-turn was followed by another pair of significant rainstorms as the afternoon began.

Little could be taken from the timesheets, with as few as six riders posting lap times in Moto3. Newcomer Philipp Öttl led the way for Paddock TT Motion Events, with Mike di Meglio and JIR Moto2 on top in Moto2. First to venture out of the pits had been Sergio Gadea, who has been drafted into Interwetten Paddock while Tom Lüthi continues his convalescence after his accident in Valencia.

Today’s track action is set to continue until 6pm local time (CET), but the day threatens to be highly unproductive as yet more showers are expected.
