Tuenti HP 40’s Pol Espargaro and Esteve Rabat led the way in the final Moto2™ practice session at Mugello on Saturday morning. The pair of Spaniards headed Italtrans Racing Team’s Takaaki Nakagami, as championship leader Scott Redding crashed in the middle of the high-speed Biondetti ‘S’ bends.

Nakagami and Rabat had taken turns atop the timesheets on Friday, as Espargaro - disheartened at the time to be ‘much slower than last year’ - led the way on Saturday with 1’53.390. The top trio of riders were covered by less than a tenth of a second as Nico Terol and Tom Luthi completed the top five for Mapfre Aspar Team Moto2 and Interwetten Paddock Moto2, respectively.

Redding’s accident appeared to have been caused by a slippery surface, as the Englishman drifted out wide on the exit of Turn 13 before his bike cartwheeled into the gravel. The rider was able to walk away, but lost crucial running time ahead of this afternoon’s qualifying session. Also in the wars was NGM Mobile Forward Racing’s Ricky Cardus, who crashed for the second time this weekend.

Filling slots six to ten were Marcel Schrotter (Desguaces La Torre SAG), Simone Corsi (NGM Mobile Racing), Johann Zarco (Came Iodaracing Project), Alex de Angelis (NGM Mobile Forward Racing) and Jordi Torres (Mapfre Aspar Team Moto2). Qualifying starts at 3:05pm local time (GMT +2).
