Red Bull KTM Ajo's Luis Salom will start Sunday’s Moto3™ race at the Gran Premi Aperol de Catalunya in pole position after a storming performance in qualifying, with Alex Rins and Miguel Oliveira also on front row.

Luis Salom jumped from ninth on the timesheet to take P1 with a great 1'50.782 lap in the final minutes, setting a new pole record in the process.

Estrella Galicia 0,0 rider Rins sat on provisional pole for much of the session but ended up 0.326s down on Salom, whilst Mahindra Racing's Oliveira was 0.758s off the pole pace.

Rins’ Estrella Galicia 0,0 colleague Alex Marquez heads the second row, with Maverick Viñales behind him fifth after a difficult session. Championship leader Viñales crashed heavily early in the session and later suffered a mechanical fault.

The second row was completed by Mahindra Racing's Efren Vazquez, with Ongetta-Centro Seta's Isaac Viñales finishing seventh to head row three, meaning Oliveira was the only non-Spaniard in the top seven.

Caretta Technology - RTG's Jack Miller and GO&FUN Gresini Moto3's Niccolo Antonelli join Isaac Viñales on row three, with the top ten on the grid completed by Ongetta-Rivacold‘s Alexis Masbou.

Sunday’s Moto3™ contest at the Gran Premi Aperol de Catalunya commences at 11am local time.
