Moto3™ championship leader Luis Salom has set the pace in Saturday morning practice at Brno. The Red Bull KTM Ajo rider, still nursing a foot injury, topped a closely-fought session in which the top six riders were covered by less than two tenths of a second, promising a tight qualifying period this afternoon.

There were several changes atop the leader board as the session drew to a close, but it was Salom raising the bar thanks to his best effort of 2’08.239. Impressively, Caretta Technology – RTG’s Jack Miller was second and only three hundreds off the pace, despite having had surgery for a broken right collarbone earlier this week.

In third spot was Estrella Galicia 0,0’s Alex Rins, winner of the last two races in Germany and Indianapolis. Rounding out the first six were Alexis Masbou (Ongetta-Rivacold), Maverick Viñales (Team Calvo) and Rins’ teammate Alex Marquez.

Two riders hit significant trouble in the form of highsides. Luca Amato was the first, crashing his Ambrogio Racing bike on the exit of Turn 3 in the opening minutes, while later in the session GO&FUN Gresini Moto3’s Lorenzo Baldassarri experienced a dramatic-looking accident as his machine barrel-rolled at Turn 9.

Qualifying for the Moto3™ bwin Grand Prix České republiky begins at 12:35pm local time (GMT +2). Last year’s Brno pole went to Maverick Viñales.
