Pedrosa leads Crutchlow in Austin warm-up

Sunday, 21 April 2013

Dani Pedrosa has topped the pre-race Warm-Up session ahead of Sunday’s Red Bull Grand Prix of the Americas. The Repsol Honda Team rider led Britain’s Cal Crutchlow and championship leader Jorge Lorenzo, as pole-sitter Marc Marquez began the day in fourth position.

In cooler conditions than both qualifying yesterday and those forecast for this afternoon’s race, Pedrosa’s leading effort of 2’04.341 came on an overcast morning and was well over a second off the pole time. The Repsol Honda Team man led Monster Yamaha Tech 3’s Crutchlow and Yamaha Factory Racing’s Lorenzo, with Marquez fourth after becoming the youngest pole-sitter in premier class history.

In the closing stages, 20-year-old Marquez avoided a collision with GO&FUN Honda Gresini’s Bryan Staring. Yesterday, the Australian had been involved in a clash with Karel Abraham which has left the Cardion AB Motoracing rider with a fractured right collarbone; he had been declared unfit to start this afternoon’s 21-lap encounter.

Stefan Bradl completes the top five for LCR Honda MotoGP, while sixth-placed Valentino Rossi was three tenths of a second quicker than he had been for Yamaha yesterday. Ducati Team duo Andrea Dovizioso and leading American rider Nicky Hayden were next up, with the top ten being closed off by Andrea Iannone (Energy T.I. Pramac Racing) and leasing CRT runner Aleix Espargaro) Power Electronics Aspar).

Sunday’s first ever MotoGP™ race at Circuit of the Americas will begin at 2pm local time (GMT -5), following the Moto3™ and Moto2™ events.
