‘We have a lot of work to do’ - Rossi

rossi disappointed after jerez race

Valentino Rossi stresses that Yamaha Factory Racing is in need of a bike improvement, with Repsol Honda Team having finished first and second in Sunday’s Gran Premio bwin de España.

As Dani Pedrosa clinched his first win of 2013 and Marc Marquez grabbed second position from Jorge Lorenzo at the final turn, Rossi experienced a somewhat lonely race to fourth place. In the initial stages he had battled with Marquez, but was soon re-passed by the 20-year-old who proceeded to pull away.

“Unfortunately, I didn’t have enough pace at the beginning because we did not find the right balance,” Rossi explained. “I had too much pushing with the front; especially at the beginning of the race, I lost too much. After, it was not so bad and there was one part of the race when my rhythm was very similar to Jorge and Marc.

“We have to work very hard - especially because Lorenzo is faster than us - so we have to find the right balance and work together with Yamaha because in this race we expected to be stronger than the Hondas but in the end we have finished behind them, so we have a lot of work to do.”

Heading to Le Mans, where last year Lorenzo won for Yamaha and Rossi finished second for Ducati Team, the seven-time premier class world champion sits fourth in the riders’ standings but is trailing leader Marquez by 18 points.
