Preparations continue at Termas de Rio Hondo

Wednesday, 8 May 2013

The Termas de Rio Hondo Circuit has been received positively by MotoGP™ governing body the FIM, following two days of intense scrutiny at the Argentinian circuit. A test session will be staged at the track in the first week of July.

The facility was visited by Franco Uncini (FIM Grand Prix Safety Officer and 500 World Champion of 1982), Javier Alonso (Managing Director of Events Area, Dorna Sports), Arturo Scalise (President of CAMOD, the Argentinian Motorcycling Federation) and Orlando Terranova (CEO of Grupo OSD that organises the Argentinian GP).

This positive news moves the new track a step closer to obtaining the maximum approval required by the FIM in order to host a round of the World Championship.

“The track is beautiful and the safety standards are very high,” Uncini declares. “Overall I can say that we are very pleased and impressed by the quality of the work that has been done, but right now we are not willing to fully approve the circuit as a few minor modifications will soon be taking place.”

Argentina last hosted a MotoGP™ event in 1999, as the season drew to a close at the Autodromo Oscar Alfredo Galvez in Buenos Aires.
