Gardner son aiming for wildcard outings

Gardner son aiming for wildcard outings

Remy Gardner, son of former 500 World Champion Wayne, is hoping to make his World Championship debut with Moto3™ wildcard appearances this year.

After beginning his racing career in homeland Australia at the age of ten in 2008, Gardner - who now resides in Sitges on the outskirts of Barcelona, Catalunya - has spent the last two season in the Moto3™ category of Spain’s CEV Repsol championship. In 2013, he also finished on the podium of the FIM European Road Race Championship at Albacete behind Karel Hanika and Bryan Schouten.

"I am pretty confident he is going to be strong this year," Wayne Gardner says of Remy, who will turn 16 in February. "He is fast now, we have been through the hard yards and we have some good choices for teams. I hope to get him into the Spanish championship again – that is the priority and that will happen – but I would also like to get him into about four Moto3™ (World Championship) wildcard entries. What Remy does and which team he goes with will depend on how it can also help us with those wildcard entries."

Father Wayne Gardner was the 500 World Champion of 1987 with Honda, edging out Yamaha rivals Randy Mamola and Eddie Lawson by 20 and 21 points, respectively.
