Impressive fourth for consistent Espargaro

As the first MotoGP™ pre-season test of 2014 ended on Thursday there was satisfaction for the NGM Mobile Forward Racing Team, thanks to the strong pace and competitive lap times shown by new recruit Aleix Espargaro.

The talented Spanish rider has shown his ability consistently on CRT machinery over the last two seasons and he again demonstrated his strength over the three days of the ‘Sepang 1’ test on the new FTR Yamaha package.

Indeed, Espargaro was the revelation of the test, improving his lap times every day and constantly featuring towards the top of the timesheets with the Forward Racing Yamaha ‘Open’ class machine.

On Thursday he recorded a 1’59.998 time as only he, Marc Marquez, Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo were be able to ride under 2’00".

Espargaro also took advantage of the third day to make a long run to gain further understanding of the bike and the electronics.

"I’m really happy with the bike and the team," said Espargaro afterwards. "We made a good step forward with the setting of the machine but there is still a lot of work to do. Today we did a long run, but we are still struggling a lot when the tyres drop down. I’m confident because this is just the first test. We will all continue to work and I also have to adapt my riding style to the new machine. I couldn’t leave Sepang with a better result!"

The NGM Mobile Forward Racing Team will be back on track at Sepang from 26th to 28th February for the second test session in preparation for the 2014 season.
