Miller on top as Jerez test kicks off

Red Bull KTM Ajo’s Jack Miller led the way as the Jerez Moto3™ test began on Tuesday. The Australian, who had already topped last week’s Valencia test, this time led from Isaac Viñales, Danny Kent and Niccolo Antonelli.

The first day in Jerez de la Frontera was heavily affected by inclement weather conditions, with heavy rain having fallen on Monday night which left a distinctly moist track surface for the first half of Tuesday. For this reason, no more than five riders – across Moto3™ and Moto2™ - ventured out of the pits in the morning.

In the afternoon, Miller’s quickest time of the day was posted in the form of 1’46.975, making the KTM rider the only competitor to duck underneath the 1’47 barrier. Judging by those who finished closest to him on the timesheet and comparing this with Valencia last week, a group of Moto3™ pace-setters is emerging and includes the aforementioned Viñales (Team Calvo), Kent (Red Bull Husqvarna Ajo) and Antonelli (Junior Team GO&FUN Moto3).

Romano Fenati was fifth for Sky Racing Team by VR46, while the top eight was rounded out by Jakub Kornfeil (Team Calvo) and Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup Champion Karel Hanika (Red Bull KTM Ajo).

There was an impressive performance from Fabio Quartararo, as the Frenchman - Moto3™ Champion in Spain’s FIM CEV Repsol championship - ended proceedings in 11th position, subbing for Estrella Galicia 0,0’s Alex Rins who is out of action following an operation on Monday in order to remove a cyst from his right wrist.

Track action continues from 10am local time (GMT +1) on Wednesday
