Miller blisteringly fast as Hanika impresses

It was a Red Bull KTM Ajo one-two on Wednesday as Moto3™ testing continued. Jack Miller registered a 1’46.278 lap time in Jerez, leading team-mate Karel Hanika as Red Bull Husqvarna Ajo’s Danny Kent made the top three.

After the rain of Monday night had left a wet track for Day 1, sunshine was available in abundance as the second day of action kicked off. The improvement in the weather was reflected in the lap times, with no less than 12 of the 33 lightweight class riders breaking through the 1’47 lap time barrier.

Once again, five of the top six riders were on KTM machines, including Sky Racing Team by VR46 representatives Romano Fenati and Francesco Bagnaia who occupied fourth and fifth spots while looking in greater detail at the maximum they could exploit from engine braking. Sixth was Niccolo Antonelli for Junior Team GO&FUN Moto3, who had been particularly rapid in Valencia last week, although second-placed Hanika was arguably the standout performer as he achieved second place.

Seventh to tenth positions were filled by Alex Marquez (Estrella Galicia 0,0), Isaac Viñales (Team Calvo), Efren Vazquez (Saxoprint-RTG) and Niklas Ajo (Avant Tecno Husqvarna Ajo).

Fabio Quartararo raised yet more eyebrows in 11th place, with the FIM CEV Repsol Moto3 Champion not even one tenth of a second slower than team-mate Alex Marquez as the Frenchman continued to sub for the recovering Alex Rins.

Day 3 of 3 will be underway from 10am local time (GMT +1) on Thursday.
