Kallio confident grip improving at Phillip Island

Kallio confident grip improving at Phillip Island

Both Marc VDS Racing Team riders were feeling somewhat under the weather as Monday’s Phillip Island tyre test began, but were also pleased with the early performance of the Dunlop tyres.

At the last Moto2™ race in Australia, the Grand Prix was shortened in race distance as the tyres were unable to last the duration. For this reason, four Moto2™ riders (those of Marc VDS and Mapfre Aspar Team Moto2) are testing this week. However, Both Marc VDS men were feeling somewhat ill on Monday.

“We are doing something like ten to 15 laps with each tyre, to see what the best options are,” Mika Kallio explained. “It feels a bit different, but it looks like the lap times are on a good level. When I went out the first time, I felt that the grip level was a little bit lower, but it seems that with more laps the grip is getter better and better – I think we are now on more or less the same level we were for the race weekend.”

Tito Rabat stressed that his illness is not affecting him on the track:

“This morning we have just tested last year’s tyres, which were good for me and the same as last year. Then we started to test the tyres for the next race here; we have three to test this afternoon, three for tomorrow morning and three for tomorrow afternoon. I am feeling a little bit sick, but on the bike it is no problem.”

Testing continues for two more days, until late afternoon on Wednesday.
