Rain could alter Bridgestone agenda on Day 3

Bridgestone intends to test three compounds of tyre in race simulations at Phillip Island on Wednesday, but admits that only two may be run if the forecast rain does indeed hit the southern Australian circuit.

At present, forecasters continue to explain that rain will be in the vicinity of Phillip Island across the morning and afternoon of the third and final day of the week. This would follow higher track temperatures than expected on Tuesday afternoon.

“Because the track temperature was a lot higher today – it got up above 50 degrees in the afternoon – the riders just decided to do another short run to fine-tune the setup,” explains Carmine Moscaritolo, Bridgestone MotoGP Press Officer. “So this afternoon we just concentrated on 14-lap runs and we’ll do the race simulations tomorrow.”

Asked how the Day 3 programme will pan out and how it should be modified, should showers fall on Wednesday, Moscaritolo replied:

“We will probably still run race simulations with the three options. It also depends on the weather; if it rains, we might have to reduce it down to two, but at the moment there are three still quite promising options.”

On Tuesday, Jorge Lorenzo (Yamaha Factory Racing) continued to lead the way, while the Moto2™ riders were headed up by Tito Rabat (Marc VDS Racing Team).
