Fenati a tenth ahead on opening day at Jerez

Sky Racing Team by VR46 rider Romano Fenati was fastest in the Moto3™ category on the opening day of the final preseason test of 2014 at Jerez.

Fenati’s best time of 1’47.242 in the last of three Tuesday sessions put him 0.106s clear at the top of the timesheet, with newcomer Karel Hanika second on the Red Bull KTM Ajo bike.

It was another good showing from 2013 Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup winner Hanika who has already shown his pace in preseason.

Hanika’s teammate Jack Miller was third (+0.193) to complete an all KTM top three, with Danny Kent in fourth place (+0.252) on the Red Bull Husqvarna Ajo machine.

Occupying positions five to seven respectively were three more KTM equipped riders, Niccolo Antonelli (Junior Team GO&FUN Moto3), Isaac Viñales (Calvo Team) and Francesco Bagnaia (Sky Racing Team by VR46). Antonelli and Viñales had similar lap times around 0.3s off P1 with Bagnaia four tenths down.

The fastest Honda representative was Efren Vazquez in eighth place for Saxoprint-RTG, just 0.456s off the pace. Although the pace was not as quick overall in the category as last time out in Jerez, when the riders tested in February, Vazquez will be pleased to have got the Honda closer to the front having trailed by 1.247s last time out.

The top ten was completed by Jakub Kornfeil (Calvo Team) and Alex Marquez (Estrella Galicia 0.0), with Marquez’ colleague Alex Rins in 11th as he recovers from recent wrist surgery.

The test continues on Wednesday and Thursday. For today’s full results click here.
