Salom ‘very happy’ with continued progress

Luis Salom made the top five on Wednesday for what was the penultimate day of Moto2™ pre-season testing, as the Spaniard steps up from the lightweight class of the World Championship as a multiple winner in 2013.

On Day 2 of 3 in Jerez, Pons HP 40 rider Salom finished in fifth place which follows on from fourth 24 hours earlier. On this occasion only three tenths of a second separated the Spaniard from Takaaki Nakagami, who led for Idemitsu Honda Team Asia.

"I am very happy because the pace is very good," Salom was pleased to report. "We still lack a bit, but it really is a bit. This morning I fell at a fast curve, but thankfully I didn’t do any damage because I had managed to slow myself down a bit.

"In the afternoon, we managed a really good rhythm just as we had done in the morning. Tomorrow we will continue to run new things, looking to make another step forward. I am still looking to make a small step forward, but I just hope we can continue to work as we have been doing up to this point."

In the meantime, team-mate and reigning Moto3™ World Champion Maverick Viñales ended the day in 14th spot and also confirmed positive feelings.
