Good work from Bautista puts him third

GO&FUN Honda Gresini man Alvaro Bautista was one of the unexpected names in front of the ‘Official Factory’ riders in Qatar on Friday, the Satellite Honda equipped Spaniard finishing the day third.

Bautista was once again the protagonist of a strong session, setting that third fastest time with 1’55.240 lap. As a further demonstration of his competitiveness, he was also the fastest of the medium tyre riders, beaten only by two riders on a softer compound – Aleix Espargaro and Andrea Iannone.

He enthused, “I'm happy because at the moment I’m the fastest rider with the medium tyres. Also, my feeling with the bike has improved slightly compared to the recent tests. We need to further improve the behaviour of the machine with used tyres, because after only 3 or 4 laps the rear tyre performance drops a lot.”

“Tomorrow we still have one more free practice session to try to improve the situation, then we will give the maximum in qualifying to try to get a good starting position, even though it will be hard to beat the riders that can use the extrasoft rear tyre, which I think offers an advantage of about four tenths of a second.”
