Lowes notes areas for improvement after good start

Sam Lowes made his Moto2™ World Championship debut on Sunday in Qatar, notching up his first points with a decent first performance for the Speed Up team.

The Englishman, who comes into Grand Prix after winning theWorld Supersport championship in 2013, finished his first Moto2 race in seventh place, though was eventually classified in sixth after Takaaki Nakagami’s disqualification.

Lowes’ winter preparations for this season took a blow when he broke his right collarbone in a Jerez testing accident, in November, but he trained hard to be ready for his debut and he believes he has a clear idea of how move higher up the rankings as 2014 racing continues.

“I’m very happy with my first result and we made some good progress over the weekend. It was my first time here in Qatar and my first race in Moto2™ so it’s not a bad result. I still have a lot to improve with myself and I learned a lot in the race,” he stated.

“I need to be smoother on the bike to have that Moto2 style and we need to improve the bike so that we finish the corners better. We have those two areas to improve and we’ve got the direction to work in for Austin.”
