First Austin session concludes with Rins on top

Alex Rins (Estrella Galicia 0,0) was the fastest rider in the first free practice of the Red Bull Grand Prix of the Americas, with Efren Vazquez (SAXOPRINT RTG) and Jack Miller (Red Bull KTM Ajo) also in the Moto3™ top three.

Rins led the way with a best time of 2’17.964 registered towards the end of the session, with Vazquez just +0.043s off his compatriot in second and Qatar race winner Miller third by just under half a second.

Isaac Viñales (Calvo Team) and Alex Marquez (Estrella Galicia 0,0) completed a top five with a heavy Spanish presence, Marquez leading briefly before a crash. He walked away unhurt.

Jakub Kornfeil (Calvo Team), Romano Fenati (SKY Racing Team VR46), John McPhee (SAXOPRINT RTG), Niccolo Antonelli (Junior Team GO&FUN) and Danny Kent (Red Bull Husqvarna Ajo) were all inside the Circuit of the Americas top ten.

There were crashes without major consequence, meanwhile, for the likes of Matteo Ferrari (San Carlo Team Italia), Ana Carrasco (RW Racing GP) and Zulfahmi Khairuddin (Ongetta-AirAsia).
