Marquez remains well ahead before qualifying

Saturday morning practice at the Red Bull Grand Prix of the Americas saw Marc Marquez assert his authority again with a best time of 2’03.046, keeping him 0.745s ahead of Stefan Bradl (LCR Honda MotoGP), as Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda) finished third on the timesheet.

Marquez was once again on a different level to the rest of the field at the COTA track where he took his first pole and win in the premier class last year and he will be looking forward to Q2 this afternoon on his Repsol Honda prototype.

Bradl was the rider closest to the MotoGP™ World Champion, the LCR man improving on his best Friday time by more than a second, with Pedrosa just over 0.14s behind the German.

Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team) registered a similar time to Pedrosa as the best Ducati rider in fourth, with an impressive effort from Bradley Smith (Monster Yamaha Tech3) putting him fifth – as the best Yamaha rider.

Andrea Iannone (Pramac Racing), Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP), Cal Crutchlow (Ducati Team), Pol Espargaro (Monster Yamaha Tech3) and Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) all made it through to Q2 automatically, though Lorenzo and Rossi in particular will still be looking for improvements.

Spanish pair Alvaro Bautista (GO&FUN Honda Gresini) and Aleix Espargaro (NGM Forward Racing) missed the automatic Q2 positions and will aim to go faster this afternoon.
