Strong performance from Luthi in final practice

Strong performance from Luthi in final practice

The Moto2™ FP3 session at the Red Bull Grand Prix of The Americas saw Thomas Luthi (Interwetten Paddock Moto2) prepare for QP by setting the pace, with Maverick Viñales (Pons HP 40) and Esteve Rabat (Marc VDS Racing Team) also in the top three.

Luthi was unable to finish the inaugural Moto2 race at the Circuit of the Americas track last year due to ongoing pre-season injury problems and was 11th best in FP2 yesterday – but he pulled a 2’10.871s out of the bag on Saturday morning.

Johann Zarco (AirAsia Caterham Moto Racing) still leads the way on combined times with a 2’10.839s from FP2 and he was fifth best in FP3, 0.41s off Luthi’s best.

Luthi’s time was 0.068s better than the impressive Viñales’ best lap, with Rabat 0.155s down in third. Another strong rookie effort came from Jonas Folger (AGR Team) who was 0.373s off top spot in fourth.

Dominique Aegerter (Technomag carXpert), Simone Corsi (NGM Forward Racing), Julian Simon (Italtrans Racing Team), Mika Kallio Marc (VDS Racing Team) and Xavier Simeon (Federal Oil Gresini Moto2) were all in the top ten.

Home rider Josh Herrin (AirAsia Caterham Moto Racing) and Lorenzo Baldassarri (Gresini Moto2) were both unhurt in light crashes, ending the session 30th and 24th respectively.
