Rabat ahead of rivals despite practice crash

The Gran Premio bwin de España FP1 run for Moto2™ brought a crash for Tito Rabat, but he was unhurt in the turn six incident and topped the timesheet ahead of teammate Mika Kallio and rookie Jonas Folger.

Rabat’s lap of 1’43.486 put him 0.078s clear of teammate Kallio (Marc VDS Racing) and 0.180s ahead of Folger (AGR Team) in third.

Xavier Simeon (Federal Oil Gresini) and Sandro Cortese (Dynavolt Intact GP) were also in the top five and within 0.258s of the top.

Nicolas Terol (Mapfre Aspar Team), Thomas Luthi (Interwetten Paddock Moto2), Maverick Viñales (Pons HP 40), Luis Salom (Pons HP 40) and Takaaki Nakagami (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia) rounded out the top ten for the first practice session.

Rabat had a small front end crash towards the end of the session, but soon picked up his bike to continue. Mattia Pasini (NGM Forward Racing) also crashed in the practice but he too was unaffected, though he did end up in 24th place on the timesheet as the accident disrupted his session.
