Cortese on top in Spanish sunshine

The Gran Premio bwin de España FP3 sessions were wrapped up with Sandro Cortese on top in the Moto2™ class, ahead of Maverick Viñales and Xavier Simeon.

Sandro Cortese (Dynavolt Intact GP) took advantage of cooler conditions than on Friday afternoon, to put in a 1’42.784. This saw him 0.249s clear of impressive rookie, Viñales, in second and 0.301s clear of Xavier Simeon (Federal Oil Gresini) in third.

Thomas Luthi (Interwetten Paddock Moto2) and Mika Kallio (Marc VDS Racing) completed the top five. Luthi was 0.309s from Cortese and Kallio 0.342s behind the former Moto3™ Champion.

Esteve Rabat (Marc VDS Racing) was sixth but missed the final stages of the session due to an engine failure.

The top ten also featured Simone Corsi (NGM Forward Racing), Sam Lowes (Speed Up), Jonas Folger (AGR Team) and Luis Salom (Pons HP 40).

Axel Pons (AGR Team) suffered a lowside crash at Turn 13, he was unhurt. Nicolas Terol (Mapfre Aspar Team) suffered a crash that saw him limp away at the end of the session, with the rider being taken to be examined in the Medical Centre.
