Folger gets reward with first Moto2™ podium

AGR Team rider Jonas Folger produced his best performance to date in his rookie Moto2™ campaign, to step onto the podium at the fourth round of the year in Jerez.

Starting from seventh place on the grid Folger was already up into third by the end of the first lap. As the race developed the young German set the fastest lap of the contest and though he could not catch Mika Kallio or Dominique Aegerter at the front he did well to hold off the chase from championship leader Tito Rabat, to take the final spot on the podium.

Afterwards, Folger stated: "I pushed to the limit and it was one of the toughest races I’ve had. This is my debut year in Moto2 and I had shown we can be fast, but never in the race. Today I felt well, with good tyres and I tried to be in front, pushing each lap without making mistakes. Rabat was very close and could have caught me with the smallest mistake. I was a bit nervous, but I was finally able to get a podium for the team. We did a great job."

Karlos Argiñano, who is a well known chef in his native Spain and is the AGR team owner, commented: “In 65 years I’ve had happy days, and today is one of them. Let’s hope we can continue like that. Watching the race I felt like I was floating 10 laps from the end. I went back to the garage and I waited with the team. With Tito Rabat behind him, we were not sure, but two or three laps from the end we saw Jonas could be on the podium. We were confident that Jonas is a good rider, humble and able to go very far. Many people congratulated us, from other teams and from the organization, because they know how we take this.”

The team dedicated their first podium, in their third season in Grand Prix, to Gines Guirado, their former Sports Director, who passed away in October 2012.
