Pace setter Rabat quick out of the blocks

The first free practice of the weekend for the intermediate class riders at Le Mans ended with Tito Rabat setting the pace, whilst Alex de Angelis and Tom Luthi also featured at the business end of the timesheets.

Despite feeling unwell earlier in the week with colic and kidney stone symptoms Rabat (Marc VDS Racing Team) dominated the session, leading the way for most of the practice and eventually finishing 0.185s ahead of De Angelis (Tasca Racing Moto2). Meanwhile, Luthi finished in third place trailing championship leader Rabat by 0.442.

Also inside the top five were rookie Jonas Folger (AGR Team) and the experienced Mattia Pasini (NGM Forward Racing).

A top ten group split by just 0.679s was rounded out by Dominique Aegerter (Technomag carXpert), Simone Corsi (NGM Forward Racing), Xavier Simeon (Federal Oil Gresini Moto2), Julian Simon (Italtrans Racing Team) and Sandro Cortese (Dynavolt Intact GP).

There was a big highside crash for Axel Pons (AGR Team) at the end of the session but he walked away from the incident.
